I recently needed an MRI scan. NHS sucks. Private wins.

November 6, 2020

I recently needed to get an MRI scan for a shoulder injury.

Going through the usual avenues of a GP referral led to a waiting list time of around 10 weeks.

Instead of waiting 10 weeks to get my scan, and god knows wait how long to get my results, I decided to look into going private.

Surprisingly enough there are a lot of options for getting private MRI scans.

A quick Google search for ‘private mri scan’ returns a plethora of results.

I decided to settle on a site called nationalmriscan.com.

Why?

Price.

They simply had the lowest price for the scanning location closest to me. And luckily enough, there were around 20 locations within around a 20 mile radius so I had lots of options.

The scanning location I settled on was a mere 10 minute drive.

Booking the scan

Booking the scan on National MRI Scan’s website was super straight forward.

I entered my postcode and found the closest centre, went through the booking form and within less than 10 minutes I’d paid for my scan.

A couple of days later I was contacted by their team with more info on my booking and appointment time and before I knew it, I was off for my scan.

Having the scan

The scan was just as easy as the booking to be honest.

I drove to my chosen scanning centre, which was my local hospital, and was directed to the MRI scanning centre.

I got directions and waited for my appointment.

Everything was done as I’d expect it to happen on the NHS, since they just refer you to the same places companies like NMRI does.

The scan itself was fine and was over with fairly quickly.

Results

I was once more contacted by the NMRI team and I received my results within 2 days of taking my scan. It came with consultation notes written by a radiologist and I was able to give these to my GP. Amazing!

All in all it took less than a week from booking to results, which I wasn’t expecting at all.

Much better than the NHS.

Imagine if my injury was more serious?

What if it was a serious worry and I couldn’t wait 10 weeks on the NHS?

This is why I think services such as these are superb and I recommend them if you are looking for a professional, yet rapid service.

I paid less than £300 for my scan and received my results in less than a week. What a bargain.

Overall, if I could give more I would, but it’s a definite 10 out of 10 stars from me.

If you’re interested in booking your own scan, I’d check out their site. Give them a search in Google ‘National MRI Scan Ltd’ or visit their website.
